Vael
"It did not speak. It did not need to. The shapes behind it moved the moment it turned — and that was enough."
Vael is the first Silhouette commander encountered in the current conflict — the figure at the edge of the storm when the ancient enemy descended on New San Francisco. Whether Vael led the return or simply arrived first is unknown.
Among the Silhouettes, Vael's form is distinct: taller, with a stillness the others do not share. Where lesser Silhouettes move with constant predatory adjustment, Vael holds position. The shapes around it respond to that stillness as though it were a command.
Sanctum's Knights have no record of a Silhouette commander from the Aurillium Wars who matches this description. Either the records are incomplete, or Vael is something new — a rank that did not exist five hundred years ago.

The Hollow Form
Vael's physical structure follows Silhouette anatomy — living black metal, overlapping blades, a body that refuses a fixed shape — but at a scale and density that distinguishes it from the hunters and breachers in its host.
The Silence That Commands
Vael does not issue orders that Knights can intercept or decode.
Its host moves in response to its position — not its words.
When Vael advances, the shapes behind it press forward.
When Vael holds, the host holds — and waits.
It has not been observed to retreat.
It has not been observed to hesitate.

Weapons of the Hollow Form
Vael's offensive capabilities extend beyond standard Silhouette anatomy. What follows is drawn from field contact — incomplete, and likely understated.
The Hollow Edge · Primary Weapon
The Hollow Edge
Vael's primary weapon is its own body — specifically the leading edge of its right arm, which can extend and reshape into a blade configuration faster than Knights have been able to track. The edge carries blackfire at concentration levels that corrupt Aurillium on contact.
Unlike the limb-severing strikes of lesser Silhouettes, Vael's blade appears designed to penetrate armor at specific points — the joints, the power conduits, the places where Forge engineering is most exposed. This is not instinct. It is knowledge.
Fusion Command
Vael has been observed absorbing lesser Silhouettes into its own form — not consuming them, but incorporating them temporarily, expanding its mass and reach before releasing the shapes again as directed weapons.
The fused configuration has not been held for more than a few seconds in observed contact. Whether this is a limitation or a choice is unknown.

A Threat to All Three Factions
The Silhouettes do not distinguish between Covenant law, Forge steel, or Sanctum oaths. Every faction faces them.
